UMW Men's Lacrosse Falls to St. Mary's, 7-6

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team fell behind, 5-2, by halftime, and were unable to recover in a 7-6 to St. Mary's College on Wednesday at the Battleground. The Eagles fall to 6-4 on the season, and 0-3 in Capital Athletic Conference play.
After most of the first quarter produced no scoring, the Seahawks scored first on a goal by Chris Lacy with 3:34 left in the quarter. Just 35 seconds later, the Eagles tied the score on a Brent Fisk tally.
St. Mary's scored the next three goals to go up, 4-1, but Dave Watts scored with 1:20 left in the second on a Travis Floyd assist to cut the deficit to 4-2. The Seahawks scored with one second left to take a 5-2 lead to halftime.
After the Seahawks upped the lead to 6-2 in the third, UMW scored three of the final goals of the quarter to cut the deficit to 7-5. Brian Deal netted a pair of goals in the period, with Evan Weiss adding an unassisted score.
UMW saw Deal score with 5:37 left in the fourth, but were unable to find the tying goal.
The Eagles outshot the Seahawks, 30-26, and had 29 ground balls to 27 for the Seahawks. UMW goalie Ryan Kleman made eight saves, while St. Mary's' Pat Simpson had 16 stops.
The Eagles will host Hood College in a CAC contest on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
