The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped an 11-9 decision to York College on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles fall to 7-6 on the season, and 1-5 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

The Eagles fell behind, 1-0, on Brian O'Neill's first score with 11:51 remaining in the first quarter, but rebounded to score six of the game's next seven goals to lead, 6-2, with less than a minute and half left in the second quarter. Five different Eagles scored during the run, with man-up goals from Charlie White and Brent Fisk, and even-strength goals from Brian Deal (2), Ryan Wettlaufer, and James Fitzella.

York scored twice in the final 1:16 to cut the deficit to 6-4 at halftime, and then outscored the Eagles, 6-0, in the third quarter. After a Spartan goal opened the scoring in the fourth, UMW scored the game's final three goals, with two from Deal and one from Fisk.

Deal led UMW with four goals, while York was led by Josh Gamble's three goals and three assists.

The Eagles outshot York, 42-31, with ground balls even at 38-36. UMW sophomore Ryan Kleman made 12 saves, while York's Chris Collins had 10 saves.

The Eagles will close the regular season on Friday in a key CAC game against Marymount University. Game time from the Battleground will be 4:00 p.m.
