UMW Men's Lacrosse Edges Marymount, 10-9; Advances to CAC Tournament
Travis Floyd
The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team used four goals from junior Dan Coats in defeating Marymount University, 10-9, on Friday at the Battleground. The Eagles close the regular season with an 8-6 record, and advance to the Capital Athletic Conference tournament, where they will visit Salisbury University on Monday at 4:00 p.m.

The Eagles led, 3-2, after the first quarter, as Coats scored a pair of goals and Ryan Motyka scored one. The Eagles outscored the Saints, 2-1, in the second, thanks to scores from Coats and senior Sean Brown, to lead, 5-3, at halftime.

Each team scored twice in the third quarter, as freshman Ryan Wettlaufer and Coats scored goals after Marymount had tied the score. UMW led after three, 7-5.

In the fourth, the Eagles scored three times, with Borwn, Kohl Meyer, and James Fitzella finding the nets. Fitzella scored what proved to be the game winner, as Marymount scored twice late, but couldn't find the tying tally.

Ryan Kleman had 11 saves for the Eagles, while Joe Gagliardi and Ross Fernandez combined for 16 stops for the Saints. The Eagles led in shots, 40-30, and won 12 of 21 faceoffs.
