FULL WOMEN'S RESULTS
The University of Mary Washington men's cross country team saw five runners finish in the top nine in capturing the 2009 Capital Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday in Walkerville, Md. The Mary Washington women finished in second place in the women's race, just five points behind champion Salisbury University.
For the men and CAC Coach of the Year Stan Soper, senior
Frank DeVar (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac) was named CAC Runner of the Year in repeating as the first place finisher in the race with a time of 25:23.66. Senior
Brian Fulton (Pawling, N.Y., Pawling) finished second overall with a time of 27:03.47, and freshman
Scott Plunkett (Annandale, Va., Annandale) took fifth with a time of 27:23.55. Senior
Matt Cash (Fredericksburg, Va., Stafford) took eighth overall at 27:31.67, and senior
Jake Pattyson (Winchester, Va., James Wood) took ninth at 27:39.51.
Sophomore
Kyle Anderson (New Milford, Conn., New Milford) finished in 12th place at 27:47.17, and was joined on the All-CAC squad by sophomore
David Gayek (Leesburg, Va., Loudoun County) who took 14th at 27:50.25.
Chris Marino (Portland, Conn., Portland) and
Stephen Harrison (Sterling, Va., Park View) both finished in the top 20 as well.
For the Eagle women, junior
Sarah Dawes (Chesapeake Beach, Md., Huntingtown) gained the CAC Runner of the Year award after finishing first with a time of 24:12.79. Junior
Kristy Witek (Fairfax, Va., Chantilly) took third at 24:52.50, and was joined on the All-CAC first team by
Michaela Sands (Burke, Va., Lake Braddock) in seventh place at 25:17.73. Sophomore
Mara Cate (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac) took 11th at 25:46.11, and
Dawn Rainbolt (Gaithersburg, Md., Quince Orchard) also joined the All-CAC team in 13th place at 25:56.82. Senior
Nina Pfeiffer (Strasburg, Va., Strasburg) also finished in the top 20, taking 17th at 26:37.63.
Both teams will compete in the NCAA Regional Championships hosted by Guilford College next Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
