The University of MaryW ashington volleyball team dropped a five set match to visiting Gallaudet University on Thursday night in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament semifinals, closing its season with a record of 18-11. Set scores were 19-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 15-7.
The Eagles led, 15-10, in the fourth set after taking a 2-1 set lead, but Gallaudet stormed back with eight straight points to assume an 18-15 advantage and held on in the fourth. The Bison led throughout in the fifth to advance to the CAC Championship on Saturday.
Mary Washington was led by senior Anne Lutkenhaus, who again turned in an impressive performance with 19 kills and 15 digs. Katie Shiflett scored 28 assists, and Lindsey Scott had 11 digs for UMW, while Karissa Herrick had three solo blocks and eight block assists.
Gallaudet was led by Justine Jeter's 18 kills and Paige Johnson's four aces and 42 assists.
