GREENSBORO, NC - The University of Mary Washington men's cross country team finished in fourth place among 24 scored teams, and the UMW women finished 11th among 27 schools at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Championships held on Saturday at Guilford College.
On the men's side, senior
Frank DeVar (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac) finished second overall in the 8K meet with a time of 26:26, and will compete in the NCAA National Championships next Saturday in Cleveland, Ohio. He will be joined by senior
Brian Fulton (Pawling, N.Y., Pawling), who finished ninth overall at 27:27, and joined DeVar on the all-region team. Freshman
Scott Plunkett (Annandale, Va., Annandale) finished 29th overall with a time of 28:31, followed by senior
Jake Pattyson (Winchester, Va., James Wood) in 34th place at 28:44. Kyle Anderson finished in 69th place with a time of 29:47 to round out the Eagles' top five. David Gayek was 75th at 30:11, and Matt Cash took 94th with a time of 30:36.
For the Eagle women, the top finisher for the Eagles was junior
Sara Dawes (Chesapeake Beach, Md., Huntingtown) in 37th place at 25:17, followed by
Michaela Sands (Burke, Va., Lake Braddock) in 51st place at 25:54. Junior
Kristy Witek (Fairfax, Va., Chantilly) was 54th at 25:58, with
Mara Cate (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac) placing 91st at 27:09, and
Dawn Rainbolt (Gaithersburg, Md., Quince Orchard) taking 101st at 27:19.
The NCAA Division III national championships will take place next Saturday in Cleveland, Ohio, at 11:00 a.m.
