The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision at Maryville (Tenn.) College on Thursday evening in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament. The Eagles close the season with a record of 12-5-5.

After a scoreless first half in which the Eagles were outshot, 7-1, UMW came out strong to open the second stanza. Junior midfielder Sarah Tryon (Fairfax Station, Va., South County) scored on an Amy Olson (Crofton, Md., Arundel) assist in the first two minutes of the second half, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Maryville would come right back three minutes later to tie the score, and score again midway through the half to take a 2-1 lead. Junior Chrissy Reardon (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) tied the score for Mary Washington with 20 minutes remaining on a Katy Generelli (Spotswood, N.J., Spotswood) assist. Maryville capped the scoring with the game winner coming on a header with 4:30 remaining in the game.

Maryville outshot the Eagles, 20-7, and had six corner kicks to three for UMW. Sophomore goalie Tina Brehm (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) had six saves for UMW, who played without All-CAC defenders Emmalee Denkler and Karen Strat, who missed the game due to injury.
