The University of Mary Washington athletic department is proud to announce the release of a comprehensive Diversity and Inclusion plan as part of its efforts to develop into a national leader in this critical area.
A committee, consisting of coaches, administrators, and faculty from across the University, developed the document over the past nine months, and is but one of the components of the University's Task Force for Diversity and Inclusion. The committee worked with multiple offices in their development of the plan, including Admissions, Human Resources, the James Farmer Multicultural Center, the University Title IX office, the Student Government Association, and the Dean of Students.
The plan will serve as a guide for ongoing assessment, education, and policy, and is produced to support the UMW Strategic Vision.
"We're extremely excited and proud to present our Diversity and Inclusion plan to the UMW community and beyond", said UMW Director of Athletics Ken Tyler. "The committee did an incredible job and we are grateful to them for their dedicated service. This comprehensive plan ties in perfectly with our "Eagle Way" mission of providing an exceptional and inclusive experience for all student-athletes and staff."
"The plan will serve as our roadmap moving forward and we look forward to its implementation", said Tyler. "Our work occurs at the right time, as many institutions across the country are having renewed and robust conversations about diversity, inclusion and social justice. As the front porch of UMW, Athletics will be leaders in this effort, and we will use our unique platform to lift people up and bring them together. It truly is a great day to be an Eagle!"
